One idea from this week's passage that really hit home with me is that meditating is filling every part of yourself with God's presence. It is a time when I realize that the things I think will fill me are not what I really need. There is definitely a fear in meditating because, like the passage says, "to be in the presence of God is to change". I have to give up my control to be changed and filled with the Lord. I need to work on stopping and listening. I try to control so many things in my life when all I need to do is take a step back and let God be my guide. Meditation is definitely something that I need to pay more time and attention to because I can't do it all on my own. God freely gives fullness and I need to accept it. In Him I will be filled.

ReplyDeletehey congrats on usc
but yes in God we will be filled and He is our guide, great reminder
Hey, Amanda!
ReplyDeleteYour post reminded me of a really cool sermon illustration I saw one time. The speaker took a really big vase and filled it with symbols of all the things the world offers to "fill" us - symbols of relationships, money, job, possessions, etc. But even though the jar was nearly overflowing with "stuff", she pointed out that there were still so many empty spaces between all the different objects. As much as we may pack our lives full of what the world has to offer, we can never be filled.
But then the speaker took a jar of water, and poured it over the vase. Now, the vase was truly full! The passage for the sermon was the story of the woman at the well from John 4. When we are filled with Him, we never have to thirst again!
Hopefully that's encouraging to you as you continue to let Christ fill the empty spaces in your heart!
