Hi Everyone! I hope your week has been great and that you had a fantastic easter :)
Wow. This weekend has been crazy, but in a good way!
Though I hate to say it, holy week has never really stood out to me. My whole life I associated it with Jesus dying on the cross for our sins but I never really knew what that meant until this year. On friday I actually watched Passion of the Christ for the first time. That, along with this devotional really put things into perspective. Needless to say I was very emotional this weekend. The greatest thing that struck me through this reading as well as the movie was the relationship between Jesus and God, like some of you have said. I never realized that God didn't answer Jesus when he called out to him from the cross. Especially when it says there was a "horrible, endless silence. God didnt answer. He turned away from his Boy. Tears rolled down Jesus' face." I never thought Jesus could feel this way. That feeling seems like something you or I would feel. But imagining Jesus going through it was pretty unimaginable. Seeing in on the screen just made it sink in further. The fact that Jesus went through all of this just for us to be forgiven for our sins is so mind blowing.
all in all, I loved everything about this weeks reading, it makes me so happy to think of how great Christ is :)
Love you all!
Whitney :)
hi whit!! I watched Passion of the Christ for the first time this week too! Man it just rocked my world... I mean all that He had to go through combined with the God's wrath poured out onto Him and having to turn against His own Son? UNREAL. But defff the best part of the movie was at the end, when it none of the stuff that He suffered matters because He won, He conquered death, He is our King! so so so SO awesome! :)
ReplyDeleteYES! I loved the ending!! :)
Deletethat "horrible, endless silence" is insane...without God, that's pretty much what hell is like - i'm so glad that 3 days later, jesus rose up from the dead and then later ascended into heaven to sit at the right hand of God!
ReplyDeleteWhitney, you are do awesome! thanks for being so honest about how you normally just let Holy Week pass by. I have totally been the same way and it's really encouraging to see how God worked in you that week! love you! God bless
