brian - week seven - service

not to compare snoopy to the devil, but the devil probably hates it when we serve hard, too (serve THE LORD hard!)

at the end of this devotional the writer asks, "this summer we will all have the choice to serve or be a servant, which will you choose?"

when you read that out of context, you're probably gonna be like, "hey what the heck, isn't that the same thing?"

hold up, yo, the writer explains: "when we choose to serve, we are still in charge."

even though we're choosing to serve with a particular time of our summer, i think that we should try to be servants for our entire lives

"when we choose to be a servant, we give up the right to be in charge...we surrender the right to decide who and when we will serve.  we become available and vulnerable." - richard foster

ultimately, we serve God, who is omnipresent, but who will we serve during our time here on earth? kids? old people? our parents? through our service to these people, we can serve God and fulfill his plan

i still think it's a great testament that we will be serving this summer - some people think i'm crazy to willingly volunteer a part of my summer (or even life after college) to be on houseboats

i believe it will be worth it though - i don't know when i'll ever have time to do something like this again; to spend time with God in prayer, meditation, studying, submitting, in solitude, serving, celebrating, guiding, and worshiping, away from everything; to say i'm stoked is an understatement
