This verse from the scriptural end notes on submission really stood out to me this week:
"What after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe - as the Lord has assigned to each his task."
What after all, is Sonshine? And what is Pearl? And who are barneys? Drivers? Admin? Only servants.
I am so quick to assign way too much significance to myself, my position, even the camp we're all a part of. But we're all only servants, and He calls us to submit to the task He's assigned each of us to - no more and no less. Submission means I'm faithful to everything He's called me to - no cutting corners, no glossing over the particularly hard parts. But it also means I'm faithful to only what He's called me to - no taking on more than I'm supposed to, or coveting the "flashier" roles He's given to others.
It seems like - almost more than the other disciplines - the more you practice submission, the more you realize the extent that He's asking you to submit. Really, Abba? You want me to stoop that low? Can't I do it my own way, just on this one thing?
Yep.
