Submission is not about losing
one’s identity, but about surrendering to a Christ-like, complete and utter obedience
and servanthood to God. I liked what Stef said about the fact that we can
imitate Christ by becoming a servant. This makes complete sense in the Kingdom
of God, but no sense whatsoever to the world because “God chose the foolish
things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world
to shame the strong”- 1 Corinthians 1:27. We “aspire to slavery” because that’s
submission to God’s will, therefore we are becoming more like Christ and,
ultimately, becoming more like who we were created to be! Stef also talks about
Revelation 5, when John is waiting for the Lion to come open the scroll, but
instead of a lion, a lamb comes, looking as if it were slain. Everyone worships
Him (the lamb) and bows down to Him. They are overcome by His majesty and glory
and power. John was expecting a Lion, as the world would, but the lamb (Jesus
Christ) came and demonstrated that power is found in the sacrificial servant,
not the dominant and ‘strong’ Lion. This demonstration of the truth of stooping
to the lowest you possibly can is demonstrated in Jesus Christ, himself, and we
are to submit to Him, take up our crosses, and follow His lead.
I have found God showing me lately that this is what I need to
be working on—submitting to His will and not trying to maneuver and plan my
future according to my will. I have also been learning patience and self-control,
which has, in turn, been conductive to learning how to submit to God’s will.
