Meditation

Hey guys, been outta town and reality for the last week or so at an awesome service trip put on by my church, I'm back and here is what I have to say.

"I don't often practice meditation because I often don't want to hear what God is telling me. 'For to be in the presence of God is to change'." This honestly is a crazy thing to think about. I mean yeah we want to change but I feel we only want to change as far as we want to, not how far God wants us to. This reminds me of a book my pastor had us read on the service project called Prodigal God. Basically he meets this woman from his church who talks about how 'good scary' it is that we are saved by Grace and Christ's deeds alone. The reason she gives for it to be 'good scary' is that if it's only Christ's deeds that save us, then 'there's nothing he can't ask of me'. Really its so scary to think that God could ask anything of us and that, I think, is why we don't always listen to God when he wants us to change.

"We can either allow our doing to flow out of our being, or we can become so pre-occupied with our doing that we neglect the true nature of our very self." So what I got from this is that we need to focus on who/what we are doing actions for. I think or true nature just points to God. So we need to focus on doing things for God rather than doing things for ourselves.

"Christian meditation leads us to the inner wholeness necessary to give ourselves to God freely." Focusing on God is one of the best ways to give ourselves to God. I'm sure we've all experienced a time away from the noise of everyday life when we felt we were closer to God. We had time to meditate and therefore had the ability to give ourselves to God fully. We need to always find ways of our meditation often so we can always give ourselves to God.

"The challenge is that the fullness of your creator is not something that you acquire." This is what scares me the most about Christianity. I can't just follow step by step directions in order to be close to God. I have to build a relationship with God by giving my whole life to him. It's just crazy the faith we need to have to fully give ourselves to God.
