Holy Week
Hey guys!
Something this devotional as well as the bible studies we have been doing has taught me, is how often I want to just skip Good Friday and go straight to Easter. It hard and makes my heart ache knowing that it was my sin that put Christ on the cross, so it's so much easier to get fired up about Easter and the celebration of Chrsit rising from the dead. No other person could have possibly paid the price to save us. The pastor at our Good Friday service yesterday said something profound "you only know how much something is with, when you see how much someone is willing to pay for it." How incredible is that when you think of what Christ paid for us, that the God of our universe was willing to suffer intense emotional, physical, and spiritual pain and die a criminals death to save us. He knew our darkest moments and still went to the cross willingly. I love the quote in our devotional, "it wasn't the nails that kept Jesus there. It was love." Keeping all that in mind, Easter means so much more to me. Reading Luke 22 it makes me think that everytime we take communion, we must remember why we get to do that, not the watered down and emotionless knowledge, but instead a passionate understanding of what that meant for Christ to give up everything and be ripped apart from his Father by my sin.
I feel like I could just go on and on about how ashamed I am of my sin, and how amazed I am that God would be willing to save me. The indisputable result is such a passion to know him, and pray for the strength to pick up my cross and follow him.
