Devotion #3 Holy Week

Hey Everyone!
This week's devotional was awesome!
The fact that it was written in such simple English made it super easy to understand and take in the full content, I especially liked the part "'I'm hungry' Jesus said. 'What's for lunch?'"
On a serious point though I underlined and bracketed some on my favorite phrases including:

"Jesus knew that what people needed most was to be clean on the inside. All the dirt on their feet was nothing compared to the sin inside their hearts."I found this especially powerful after it had just been mentioned how dirty the streets actually were from animal waste and all that transferred from the road to the feet. Jesus gets up from the table and wipes off the dirt and filth from the men's feet with great ease, just as he gave his live, a much more difficult task, to clear all of our tabs and to let us start anew.

"My life will break and God's broken world will mend. My heart will tear apart- and your hearts will heal." This just goes to show how sacrificial Jesus' death was. He knew it was coming and he had prepared himself, but one man gave his LIFE so billions of other people could live theirs.

My FAVORITE FAVORITE part deals with two quotes.
1. "And with a great sigh he let himself die. Strange clouds and shadows filled the sky. Purple orange, black. Like a bruise" I especially like that he "let himself die" Jesus had the power to get off that cross and I'm sure that the temptings by the Roman soldiers didn't make this time any easier for Jesus. The phrase "Bruise" serves a dual purpose in it's description of the day's sky but it's also used to show the pain that Jesus endured during his time on the cross using a physical descriptor.

2. After Jesus' death came the resurrection, and with it "the whole sky was filled with a dazzling light". I love the contrast between the dark and gloomy sky immediately following his death and that the skies instantly cleared with his resurrection showing a literal bright future ahead.

I wish everyone a fantastic Easter and I can't wait to see everyone again for the RJW!

  1. "And with a great sigh he let himself die. Strange clouds and shadows filled the sky. Purple orange, black. Like a bruise"-- this was one of my favorite lines too... something about the imagery of the world reflecting and crying out with the pain of Jesus!

...and then followed by that dazzling light! What a beautiful contrast to pick up on.
