Service:
I really enjoyed this devotion. As christians we're slaves of Christ. When people hear the word slave, people automatically assume it's bad. Slave is one of those words that has a bad connotation. I call myself a slave because my master is Christ. As christians we have the best master because He is good and loving. Before we were slaves of Christ we were slaves of sin. In Romans 6:16 it says " Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness." Sin leads to death but because of Christ we are set free. Christ paid the penalty for our sins and we owe our lives to Him. As I was reading this devotion I asked myself " Is my life fruitful or fruitless?" John 12:26 stuck out to me, it says " If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him." We must serve the Lord. What does that mean? We must live for the Lord and follow the footsteps of Christ. We are His slaves! In the devotion it says "Right here we must see the difference between choosing to serve and choosing to be a servant". I was definitely a little confused at this sentence, but if you read more it says "when we choose to be a servant, we give up the right to be in charge." We need to surrender our lives to God; that means all of it. We are not in control of our lives when we are servants. These past couple of weeks God has been constantly reminding me that He's in charge and that I need to live for Him fully.
Dear God, I just want to pray for this summer and I pray Lord that you would be in charge. I'm not in control Lord you are. I thank you Lord for sending you son Jesus and thank you for being my master. I pray Lord that my life would be fruitful and that I would serve you. I pray Lord that you would use me this summer as an instrument. I pray Lord that these campers wouldn't see me but that they would see Christ working through. I love you Lord and thank you for everything. Amen.
Celebration:
We are dead in our sins and alive in Christ! When I think of celebration I think of praising Chirst. In 2 Corinthians 5:17 it says "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come." This is a celebration of the new that has Christ in our hearts. In the devotion it says "You in the most beautiful and holy way are a living sacrifice being reborn into the most magnificent of all created things- a child in the very image of God." We are children of God now. We are children of God because of Christ. We kow the Lord now, we are able to have a relationship with Him. Thats a celebration!
