Solitude

I liked what Foster said about solitude—that it is one of the deepest disciplines of the Spirit because it stops us from self-justifying, and for that matter, self-glorifying. I find myself trying to do everything I can to make sure that everyone understands my actions and motives correctly, when it is actually God’s judgment of my behavior and motives that I should be worried about. By being silent before God and submitting to His will, the Spirit works to reveal my sin to me and mold my heart into who I was created to be.

This devotional really spoke to me. I am the kind of person who needs ‘alone time’, but I am not always using it for time with God, like I say I am. I “must seek out the recreating stillness of solitude if I want to bring that back and apply it to my life to create more meaningful relationships. By doing that, I am using my alone time for good, not to cultivate laziness and hide from God.
