Week 2 - Meditation!

This devotion talks a lot about "meditation involves, not emptiness, but fullness." To take a spin on that, I think meditation has to first involve emptying yourself of the things that aren't honoring God so that you can allow yourself to be filled. I thought of Hebrews 12:1-2 "...let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entagles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith..."  We have to empty ourselves of what hinders us so that our meditation can fill us with the things that our perfecter of faith has to offer.
I loved the last paragraph of the first page where it says "We meditate to give God's words the opportunity to penetrate, not just our minds, but our emotions" because it's such a call to action! I thought this was the best devotion to come right after prayer. Prayer and meditation go hand in hand because we need to use meditation as a way to listen to how God is responding to our prayers.

"In contemporary society our adversary majors in three things: noise, hurry, and crowds." This made me think of somebody who once told me they praised God when they got to sit in traffic or wait in a line because it gave them the opportunity to pray!

I found the quote "Meditation is the 'ability to hear God's voice and obey his word'" very challenging because I have often found myself struggling with hearing God's voice. A few lines later it ends by saying "Stop and Listen." Such simple words that I need to be reminded of over and over and over again!

Lots of love,
Molly
